Tulum FAQs
Why Tulum?
The real question is why wouldn't you want to go to Tulum? Tulum is such an epic place for a bachelorette trip and has SOO much to offer. It’s the most beautiful coastal town located on the Yucatan Peninsula with so much rich history and a serene atmosphere. You can visit the perfectly preserved Mayan Ruins, explore the lush jungle, lounge on the perfectly white sandy beaches, swim in the crystal clear ocean, enjoy loads of great shopping, and eat AMAZING food.
Where is Tulum?
Tulum is located about 90 minutes from Cancun by car and is on the Southeastern tip of Mexico. The Caribbean Sea is located to the right of it so of course the water is STUNNING. So you can choose to stay in Cancun and take a day trip or an overnight trip or choose to stay in Tulum. Either way, it is definitely worth a visit.
What is the weather like in Tulum?
Because of Tulum’s location, it has a tropical climate that is very hot. From November to April the weather is cooler and dryer while the summer months from May to October are quite humid and muggy. And towards the end of the summer months is Hurricane season so it is not the most ideal time to visit.
What airport do you fly into when visiting Tulum?
You will most likely be flying into Cancun International Airport.
Once we land in Cancun, what is the best way to get to Tulum?
I would recommend booking a private transfer before you get there if you have a bigger group. If you are all getting there at different times, you can take a taxi or Uber.
There is also the option to rent a car if you feel comfortable driving there.
Once in Tulum, what is the best way to get around?
Tulum is broken up into different areas - hotels (near most of the beaches), the town center (lot of restaurants), and the Tulum Ruins. You can absolutely rent a car or van, but you can also bike literally everywhere and bike rentals + moped rentals are all over. Ola Bike Tulum is one of them and they are literally just everywhere.
The Itinerary for Olivia’s Tulum Bachelorette Trip
Here is a breakdown of each day of this bachelorette trip.
Day 1:
The first day was very chill and just entailed everyone arriving and doing a quick Costco trip before heading to the Airbnb.
Day 2:
On the second day, they enjoyed a nice breakfast and then all got ready to go out and explore while I was there to capture all of their fun moments.
Their first activity of the day was heading to the Sian Ka’an River to take a boat ride and then float down the river. After this, they all changed for their photoshoot. Our first photoshoot location was the Mayan Ruins which was so beautiful. They then enjoyed lunch at Burrito Amor.
After lunch, they headed to the Sian Ka’an Luum Lagoon which was so freaking cool. There were these swings and hammocks out in the water that we had so much fun with in the photo shoot. It was the best day of exploring, snorkeling, and taking photos of this amazing group of friends.
Around 5 pm, they headed back to their Airbnb to enjoy dinner, shower, and enjoy a pajama party.
Day 3:
At 8 am, they headed out to drive to Akumal Dive Center where they got to snorkel, lounge on the beach, ride jet skis, and had the option to pay to swim with turtles. We even did a little photoshoot on the jet skis with Olivia which was so epic!
Around 10:15, we left and headed to Yal Ku Lagoon which is a breathtakingly beautiful paradise that is super secluded and offers the most amazing waters to snorkel in. They then headed to enjoy lunch at La Buena Vida Restaurant.
In the evening, they had dinner at Casa Banana which was the coolest atmosphere. They enjoyed great food, lots of drinks, and I had a blast being their hype woman and personal photographer. They ended the evening at Rosa Negra for more drinks and photos.
Day 4:
This was their last full day in Tulum so they enjoyed a nice and relaxing day at the Airbnb with some yoga and soaking in the pool.
Day 5:
Everyone checked out of the Airbnb and headed to the airport.
Best Places to Explore & Eat in Tulum
Now that we went over their Tulum Bachelorette trip Itinerary, here are all the details on the places they went to and ate at + some extras.
Activites/Destinations:
Sian Ka’an River:
This is definitely a must-visit if you are in Tulum. The Sian Ka’an is actually a biosphere reserve and its name translates to “the gate of heaven.” This just tells you how insanely beautiful this place is. To enjoy this place to its fullest, I highly recommend doing a river float. It was so fun, relaxing, and truly something I will never forget.
Sian Ka’an Luum Lagoon:
This is a calm and relaxing lagoon with turquoise waters and the most beautiful views. In the middle of the lagoon is a large cenote which is a dark blue color. While you can’t swim in the cenote, you can enjoy soaking in the shallow areas. There is a fun swing in the water and some hammocks which are perfect for some photos.
Mayan Ruins:
You can’t visit Tulum without checking out the Mayan Ruins. These ruins sit on the rocky coastline along the Riviera Maya and showcase several temples and castles bult by the Mayans. The scenery is insanely beautiful and it so cool to see and appreciate Tulum’s history.
El Gran Cenote:
Olivia’s group ended up not visiting the El Gran Cenote but I had to include it. It is an underground cavern that is so fun to swim and snorkel in. The natural beauty of this is something I would 1000% recommend you see and experience. It will definitely be crowded but I think it is definitely worth it.
Akumal:
Akumal is a beautiful beach that is amazing for snorkeling and diving. You will likely see lots of sea turtles, fish, and stunning coral in the sparkling waters. You can also rent jet skis at this beach as well.
Yal Ku Lagoon:
Yal Ku is another beautiful lagoon that is definitely worth a visit. It is a tropical paradise that offers crystal-clear waters perfect for snorkeling and relaxing.
Restaurants:
Lief's vegan restaurant: is a staple for travelers and the banana bread + Acai bowls are amazing
Palosantos Cafe + Restaurant - if you are from Seattle and coffee is life like it is for me - this is where you want to get your coffee + breakfast every morning :)
El Abasto Tulum - Argentinian Cafe with great coffee, pastries, sandwiches
Walicho Tulum - Brew Pub with great Mexican beers and empanadas.
There are also lots of beach restaurants and beach clubs in the hotel district. And if you are in the mood to do some shopping, the Señor Tlachuache Flea Market has tons of super cool vintage shops of mostly housewares.
