    What is a Micro Wedding?

So, what is a micro wedding? How is it different from an elopement or an intimate wedding?

A micro wedding is a small wedding. While traditional weddings often have hundreds of guests, a micro wedding is intentionally small, personal, and intimate. But there’s more to it than that! While the guest count is a big part of what makes a micro wedding micro, some of the biggest reasons that couples opt for a smaller celebration is because of the freedom it gives. Also, the way it allows you to spend time with the people you love most.

The terms “micro wedding” and “intimate wedding” are often used pretty interchangeably. So, you can usually think of them as the same thing! Some people consider micro weddings to be smaller than intimate weddings. Micro weddings have around 10-25 guests, while intimate weddings are a little bigger, with 25-50 guests. There’s no “official” definition, so when it comes to terminology, use whatever feels right to you!

As for the difference between a micro wedding and an elopement, guest count is a part of it too. Elopements can be just the couple, or they can have a few guests (usually up to 10), while micro weddings can have a little more. But the guest count isn’t the defining factor. The biggest difference between elopements and micro weddings is the focus of the day! Elopements are usually about adventures and focused on the couple spending time together, while micro weddings are about hanging out with family and friends - which can definitely include an adventure too.

Why You Should Opt for a Micro Wedding

Now that we’ve figured out what a micro wedding is, let’s talk about some reasons to throw one. These reasons are what make micro-weddings a great option for couples who aren’t feeling the traditional wedding thing. If they resonate with you, that might be a sign that a micro-wedding is right for you!

Micro Weddings Are a More Intimate Experience

So many couples find that they spend their wedding day rushing from place to place, stressing about saying hello to every single guest, without actually getting to spend meaningful time with them. A lot of them also find that they feel a lot of pressure to invite everyone they know (and a few pluses 1’s that they don’t know)n- even if that includes people they haven’t seen in years.

A micro wedding is intentionally kept small so that the people you invite are the people you truly want around you on the day you get married! With a smaller guest list, you get to actually spend time with the people you love, and celebrate together, without feeling like you have to be in a million different places at once.

    Micro Weddings Are More Fun

Okay, this one might depend on your definition of fun! A micro wedding gives you a lot more freedom and flexibility to do what you want on your wedding day. While traditional weddings typically follow the same script, a micro wedding allows you to be creative in how you get married. It lets you focus on the things that matter to you!

    Micro Weddings Are About You

Traditional weddings often become about everyone but the couple - which is a huge bummer! This is the day you get married, and that should be the focus of the day. Instead of worrying about pleasing everyone, throwing a party that you won’t even get to enjoy, and forcing traditions that don’t really fit who you are, with a micro wedding, you can create a day that actually reflects you - whether that means tying the knot in the backyard of your childhood home, renting a houseboat and partying with 10 of your closest friends, or anything else you can imagine!

You Can Get Creative With Micro Wedding Venues

Another huge perk is that you’ll have more options for venues! With a smaller guest count, you aren’t bound to traditional venues - you can get creative and choose a place that makes your experience amazing. Some examples of unique venues can be a national park, a cute cabin, a houseboat, or your backyard… the options are endless!

Along with choosing a fun venue, you can also customize your micro wedding with amazing adventures, and get creative with how you celebrate throughout the day! Take a boat to a remote island in the San Juans, celebrate with a bonfire on the beach, take a little hike with your family, and get married. However, you want.

    Micro Wedding Budgets

Budget can be another big factor in couples’ decision to downsize their wedding! But, this isn’t because they’re “cheap” or want to avoid investing in their day. While micro weddings typically cost less than the nearly $30,000 average cost of a traditional wedding, the important thing about this is that couples spend their money in a way that actually makes them happy! Instead of spending thousands on a venue and on feeding 200 people, you can decide what’s important to you, and invest in the experience you have rather than things you’ll never see again after the day is over.
