Mt. Baker Winter Engagement

This Mt. Baker Winter Engagement is one of my favorites to this day!

One question couples often ask is if I only shoot photos in the mountains during the spring and summer months.

THE ANSWER? No freaking way!

There is something magical about being in the mountains as the seasons change and if you’re up for it, so am I.

Breanna and Karston's Mt. Baker Winter Elopement

I first met Brenna and Karston at the Wake ‘N Bakery. Honestly, it is the best place to grab a cup of coffee—or an amazing baked good—in the sleepy town of Glacier.

About twenty miles east of Glacier is Heather Meadows, the starting place for endless hikes and backcountry access throughout the Mt. Baker National Forest.

The morning of this session, we woke to an unexpected dusting of snow but neither Brenna nor Carston were deterred, and neither was I.

Tips from a Washington Elopement Photographer

This couple chose to wear exactly what they normally would on an early winter hike: matching beanies, flannels, hiking boots, and layers. Dressing for comfort during a session means relaxed, easy-going, and authentically your photos.

Feeling comfortable and confident, especially when mountain weather is involved, can make a session feel easy and breezy. And if you usually avoid being in front of the camera, coming just as you are can help eliminate some of those unwelcome session jitters.

Another trick I recommend?

Share a bottle of champagne! There’s little I love more than capturing natural, authentic moments shared between lovers. Something as simple as popping a bottle while trying to stay cozy and dry can be the most memorable moment to capture.

Outfits for a Mt. Baker Winter Engagement

During a break from the rain, Brenna and Karston shed a few layers on the shore of Bagley Lakes. Brenna rocked a pair of deep red overalls she borrowed from Rent The Runway—a great budget option if you’re uncertain about pulling the trigger on purchasing a look for your session. If you’re uncertain about what to wear to your session, you may find the session guide especially helpful!

There are so many different ways to make an engagement session reflect you and your partner's unique vibe; let’s connect to plan your winter engagement session in the mountains!
